01 · Manual inspections

Documents checked before the pet travels

Officers read paper passports and certificates one by one, and non-compliance is found at the border, where the options are delay, quarantine or return.

  • Documents scanned and matched to your requirements before departure
  • Each marked Valid, Needs Review, Not found or Formality
  • Officers focus on the cases that need them

02 · Digitalisation & modernisation

Every arriving pet’s documents checked in one batch

Commercial movements are certified electronically in TRACES NT, but most non-commercial pet travel still runs on paper documents and on guidance spread across pages and PDFs.

  • Drop in a traveller’s documents and get a verdict per pet
  • A digital record of each pet’s requirements and documents
  • Every requirement linked to your source and updated in one place

03 · Cost cutting

Missing requirements flagged before travel, not at the border

Every pet that arrives non-compliant costs officer time, and often holding, quarantine or return.

  • Travellers see what’s still missing before departure
  • Fewer non-compliant arrivals to hold, quarantine or return
  • Fewer helpline calls about basic rules

04 · Compliance

Your requirements as a step-by-step checklist

Non-compliance often starts with a traveller who misunderstood the rules, not one trying to break them.

  • Every requirement for the route, with deadlines

05 · Inclusivity

A mobile-first checklist for a digital-first generation

Younger travellers expect government services to work like the apps they use every day, and PDFs, forms and helplines don’t meet that expectation.

  • Step-by-step requirements instead of PDFs
  • Instant answers for their exact route, at any time of day
  • The modern public service a digital-first generation expects

06 · TRACES (EU)

Commercial and non-commercial rules, clear before travel

Commercial pet movements into the EU need an Export Health Certificate through TRACES NT, while owners travelling with up to five of their own pets follow non-commercial rules, and many travellers can’t tell which applies.

  • Checklists flag restrictions such as ‘only privately owned pets’ first
  • Travellers learn early when TRACES NT and an official vet are needed
  • Fewer pets arriving on the wrong paperwork

Non-commercial movementAn owner, or a person they authorise, travelling with up to five of their own pets: pet passport or animal health certificate.

07 · Defra (GB)

Documents pre-checked for Great Britain’s pet checkers

Every non-commercial pet entering Great Britain on an approved route gets full documentary and identity checks by an authorised pet checker.

  • Travellers see GB’s requirements, including approved routes and carriers, before they book
  • Documents checked digitally before departure
  • Pet checkers spend their time on identity and welfare, not paperwork

Pet import rules travellers have to get right

What sits behind every pet arriving at your border.

Destination import requirements

What each country requires for the species and the country of origin: vaccines, tests, treatments, permits and certificates.

Country guides

Commercial vs non-commercial movement

Whether a pet travels with its owner or is moved commercially decides which certificate and checks apply. In the EU, commercial movements go through TRACES NT.

Health certificates and endorsement

The certificate the destination requires, completed by a qualified veterinarian and endorsed by the government where required.
